Each candidate has a comprehensive understanding of the gun violence epidemic and a proven commitment to addressing it
SEATTLE, WA – Today, the Alliance for Gun Responsibility Victory Fund announced its endorsement of Nikkita Oliver and Brianna Thomas in the race for the citywide Position 9 on Seattle City Council. This marks only the second time the Victory Fund has issued a dual endorsement and is evidence of both candidates’ qualifications and significant experience working on gun violence prevention.
“Seattle is fortunate to have two different candidates for citywide office with the depth of understanding and commitment to addressing the gun violence epidemic that Nikkita and Brianna have,” said Renée Hopkins, CEO of the Alliance for Gun Responsibility. “Though they have taken different approaches, both Nikkita and Brianna have proven their dedication to preventing gun violence in all its forms. Nikkita has dedicated their work in Seattle to anti-violence, community building work and has proven an invaluable community leader. They have a clear commitment to a public health approach for violence reduction that is rooted in addressing systemic inequities and advancing solutions that are accessible and culturally responsive. Through her work as a staff member with city council, Brianna has helped make gun violence prevention progress in the city possible. She has the experience and passion to make good on her promise to continue Seattle’s commitment to preventing gun violence and keeping our communities safe.”
