The Alliance For Gun Responsibility Responds To NRA Bankruptcy

SEATTLE, WA – In response to news that the National Rifle Association is filing for bankruptcy amid legal and financial challenges, Alliance for Gun Responsibility CEO Renée Hopkins issued the following statement:

“The NRA’s bankruptcy is welcome news to all of us fighting for safer communities. Hardly any organization is responsible for as much damage or destruction as the NRA. In its quest to pad its own pockets, the NRA has dealt in fear mongering and deception and the American people have paid the price. NRA obstruction allowed the gun violence epidemic to flourish, costing countless American lives. Its rhetoric inspired far-right armed extremists and helped create the dangerous anti-government movement threatening our democracy.

Make no mistake: the decision to file for bankruptcy is a final, desperate attempt to avoid legal and financial responsibility. But years of corruption and self-dealing are finally catching up. It is clear that the NRA has lost its grip on the United States. Now we all must get to work repairing the damage it has done and building a safer, more just future.”
