The Alliance For Gun Responsibility Honors Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
SEATTLE, WA – In recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Alliance for Gun Responsibility CEO Renée Hopkins issued the following statement:
“Today, we honor the life and legacy of one of our country’s greatest leaders, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He was a model of courage and perseverance in the face of cruel indignity. He never gave up the fight to improve our democracy, despite the injustice it brought upon him.
Dr. King’s remarkable life was cut short when he was shot and killed by a white supremacist intent on inciting fear and terror in those fighting for justice. Today, our nation is reeling from another white supremacist attack, this time on the U.S. Capitol. In this dark time, we are called to reflect on how deep the roots of white supremacy run in our country and on how much work we have left to do to achieve Dr. King’s vision. But we are also called to remember that we have faced unthinkable challenges before and emerged as a better, fairer country. It is our responsibility to follow Dr. King’s example and work tirelessly, as he did, for a safer, more just future.”
