#ProtectOurCourt
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s last wish was that her seat on the Supreme Court not be filled until a new president is installed.
But Republicans are rushing to fill her seat anyway in a desperate attempt to advance Trump’s agenda. In 2016, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refused to hold a vote on President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland saying it was “too close” to the election and the American people deserved a say in the next justice. Garland was nominated 237 days before the election. The 2020 election is less than 40 days away and voting has already begun.
Call your senators today to demand they do everything in their power to block the nomination of a new Supreme Court justice.
Here’s how to do it:
1. If you don’t know who your Senators are, you can look them up here.
2. Dial the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121.
3. Tell your Senator how you feel. Sample language is below.
Hi Senator,
My name is [________] and I live in [________]. I am calling to urge you to do everything in your power to prevent Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat from being filled until after the 2021 inauguration.
Mitch McConnell must follow his own rule and wait to confirm a replacement until the people have voted. Voting for the 2020 election is already underway. Never before in our nation’s history has the senate confirmed a Supreme Court nominee in this way and this late in an election year, and it must not do so now. The Senate should reject any nominee until after Inauguration Day.
Donald Trump has already stolen one Supreme Court seat. They should not be allowed to further erode our democracy.
Thank you.
That’s it!
