International Transgender Day of Visibility

Today is International Transgender Day of Visibility. As we at the Alliance for Gun Responsibility celebrate the accomplishments and joy of trans people, we also must highlight the need to create a safer and more inclusive world for both trans and non-binary individuals.

Transgender Day of Visibility - We Stand With the Transgender CommunityWhile trans people are more visible than ever before, the whole of America is experiencing sweeping harmful legislation and rhetoric attacking trans individuals, access, and freedom. According to the ACLU, over 400 bills looking to restrict LGBTQ rights have been introduced throughout the United States. States like Tennessee, Utah, and Arkansas, have already passed several of those bills into law.

Transgender people are more likely to be victims of violent crimes, are more likely to attempt suicide than their cisgender counterparts, and trans women of color experience the highest risk of domestic violence. We know that transgender rights are a gun violence prevention issue.

Today, and every day, the Alliance stands with the transgender community.
