22 things we’re celebrating from 2022

As this year comes to a close, we wanted to share a few reasons to celebrate. So here are 22 things from 2022 that we’re especially proud of. This year we:

  • Restricted high-capacity magazines with the passage of SB 5078 through the Washington state legislature–a victory six years in the making!
  • Closed the ghost gun loophole, with the passage of HB 1605 through the state legislature.
  • Extended protections against armed intimidation with the passage of HB 1630, which prohibits open carry at public government meetings and restricts firearms at school board meetings and election-related offices.
  • Prohibited live-shooter drills with the passage of HB 1941.
  • Supported a coalition that made critical updates to Washington state’s use of force standards.
  • Improved and updated Washington’s civil protection order system, including updating the definition of domestic violence to include coercive control.
  • Advocated for the investment of more than $8 million in the Office of Firearm Safety and Violence Prevention.
  • Helped secure congressionally-directed federal spending for our partner organizations CHOOSE 180 and Peacemaking Institute!
  • Held a press conference on the anniversary of the Parkland shooting to honor victims of gun violence.
  • Organized #ENOUGH: Plays to End Gun Violence on the 23rd anniversary of the Columbine shooting.
  • Hosted our first-ever Youth Summit
  • Celebrated (at the White House!) the passage of the first federal gun safety bill in nearly 30 years!
  • Held our 10th annual luncheon and hosted in person for the first time in two years.
  • Hosted powerful events in the wake of mass shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde with legislative and community leaders.
  • Observed a Wear Orange weekend to remember, thanks to support from stadiums, sports teams, and allies.
  • Held a strategic convening with partners from across the country to chart a path forward in the wake of the Supreme Court’s Bruen decision.
  • Hosted the Together We End Gun Violence Symposium along with partners at Community Passageways, King County, the City of Seattle, and Washington state.
  • Elected 77 gun responsibility champions–growing our GVP majorities in Olympia.
  • Helped support the passage of Measure 114, a comprehensive Oregon ballot measure that requires a permit to purchase firearms, restricts high-capacity magazines, and more.
  • Welcomed new team and board members!
  • Cheered on the thousands of Seattle students who organized a walk out and marched to demand more action to stop gun violence.
  • Observed the 10th anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting at powerful vigils and resolved to continue fighting for a safer future.

We continue to be inspired by the strength and support of our community. Thank you for sticking with us every step of the way.
