The Alliance For Gun Responsibility Statement on Shootings in Lewiston, Maine
SEATTLE, WA – According to news reports, on Wednesday, October 25th, Lewiston, Maine, experienced multiple shooting incidents, leading to the tragic loss of 18 innocent lives, with up to 50 individuals sustaining injuries. This marked the most devastating mass shooting of 2023. In response to these senseless shootings, Alliance for Gun Responsibility CEO, Renée Hopkins issued the following statement:
“Our thoughts are with the survivors, loved ones, and the entire community touched by this tragedy. No one should have to fear being shot at a restaurant or a bowling alley. Sadly, these shootings are painful evidence of the cost of inaction in the face of the gun violence epidemic.
As we monitor developments in this tragedy, it’s imperative to recognize that gun violence is an ongoing national crisis, claiming human lives on a daily basis – a reality we cannot tolerate. We have the ability to disrupt this cycle of violence by collaboratively addressing its underlying causes. The events in Lewiston serve as a stark reminder that we can no longer passively accept the recurring pattern of such incidents in America. It’s time for us to take meaningful action.
We are committed to working harder than ever in honor of all victims and their loved ones for an end to this epidemic.”
