Alliance For Gun Responsibility Celebrates Passage Of Firearms And Ammunition Tax In Tacoma
The tax will fund community-led gun violence prevention programs in the city
SEATTLE, WA – The Alliance for Gun Responsibility issued the following statement in response to the Tacoma City Council passing a firearms and ammunition tax. The tax, which is modeled after Seattle’s successful firearms and ammunition tax, was passed 8-0 and will fund gun violence prevention programs.
“We are thrilled to see Tacoma lead the way on local action to prevent gun violence by passing this commonsense measure,” said Renée Hopkins, CEO of the Alliance for Gun Responsibility. “And we are grateful for Council Member Mello’s commitment to championing this issue. Too many Tacomans have experienced the tragedy of losing a loved one to preventable gun violence. This tax will help fund effective violence interruption and prevention programs and save lives. It also serves as an example to other cities and localities around the state who are eager to act to keep their communities safe.”
