Alliance for Gun Responsibility Applauds Jay Inslee’s Plan to Address Gun Violence and White Nationalism
SEATTLE, WA – As our country reels from a horrific weekend of mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, Dayton, Ohio, and Chicago, Illinois, Governor Inslee is acting. Today he unveiled a 10-point plan to curb gun violence by calling for many of the laws we’ve already enacted here in Washington State at the federal level.
“All too often in America, hate and gun violence combine with tragic and violent results,” said Renee Hopkins, CEO of the Alliance for Gun Responsibility. “We must name the white nationalism and racism at the core of many mass shootings and confront it head on. Governor Inslee’s plan builds on what we’ve done here in Washington to help do that.”
“Washington State has led the way on passing commonsense gun laws like Extreme Risk Protection Orders, expanded background checks, and banning 3D-printed firearms and untraceable ‘ghost guns.’ It is time for the rest of the country to follow suit. We are proud to have counted Governor Inslee as a gun violence prevention champion since day one and his style of bold leadership is sorely needed on the national stage.”
“No one is safe from the scourge of gun violence but black and brown communities are especially at risk,” continued Hopkins. “The spate of shootings carried out by white nationalists and fueled by the hateful rhetoric of this administration demands an immediate and unequivocal response. We call on all Democratic candidates to denounce this homegrown terrorism and join Gov. Inslee in proposing ambitious and detailed plans to address the epidemic of gun violence.”
