Stories
I’ve been working in politics for a long time, and one of the things I’ve learned is that personal stories from real people are critically important in motivating people to fight for change.
We KNOW that brave citizens standing up to tell their neighbors how gun violence has touched their lives will be a powerful part of winning this election, and for that we need your help.
Has gun violence impacted you? Click here to tell us your story.
We’ve seen recently just how powerful these personal stories can be. Richard Martinez, the father of one of the Isla Vista shooting victims, generated a lot of attention when he spoke out. He even BRIEFLY got Congress to consider re-introducing reform legislation — but we know we’re going to need your voices to get the job done in Washington.
Your story can help finally pass commonsense reforms to reduce gun violence. And this is exactly why we want to hear yours today.
We’ve already received some remarkable stories. Mary Ann sent us this story amid the 2nd anniversary of the Cafe Racer shooting:
“I witnessed the carjacking and shooting of Gloria Leonidas outside my window at Town Hall on May 30, 2012. I will never forget that day. I could hear people yelling and looked out my window. I saw a man and woman arguing inside a car. I thought it was a couple having a spat. It started to escalate and he tried to pull her out of the car but she fought. I was on the phone to 911 by then. When I saw him pull out a gun, I backed away from the window. I did not want to see. I heard the shot. I knew I had to go back and look because the dispatcher needed to be updated.
I will never forget that day. I want Gloria’s family to know that she was not alone. We were all praying for her.”
Thanks for sharing with us.
