Seattle PI: Opponents of ‘gun show loophole’ armed with cash for fall campaign
The Seattle PI reports
The luncheon, packing more than 1,200 people into the Westin ballroom, showed that support for gun safety legislation has not flagged over time. Such politicians as Seattle Mayor Ed Murray and King County Executive Dow Constantine were in attendance, along with Washington’s first lady Trudy Inslee.
During the invocation, the Very Rev. Michael Ryan, pastor of St. James Cathedral, evoked words from Richard Martinez, whose son Christopher was victim of the shooting and stabbing rampage last month in which a Santa Barbara, California, college student killed six people, shot or rammed 13 additional victims, and then killed himself.
“They talk about gun rights: What about my son’s right to live?” Martinez asked.
“Every one of our traditions preaches peace, promotes justice and advocates laws that promote the common good,” Ryan argued, flanked on stage by more than two dozen ministers, priests, rabbis and Muslim religious leaders from Western Washington.
