ALLIANCE FOR GUN RESPONSIBILITY LAUNCHES NEW “WASHINGTON STATE PROTECTION ORDERS” WEBSITE
SEATTLE, WA – The Alliance for Gun Responsibility is proud to announce the launch of waprotectionorders.org, a statewide online portal to help understand, navigate, and access civil protection orders across Washington.
Tailored to meet the needs of survivors, respondents, advocates, law enforcement, and legal professionals, this website consolidates information on all six types of civil protection orders in Washington – including domestic violence, stalking, anti-harassment, vulnerable adult, sexual assault, and Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs).
“This new website is an invaluable resource for Washingtonians,” said Renée Hopkins, CEO of the Alliance for Gun Responsibility. “Navigating protection order systems can be overwhelming, especially during a crisis. Now, survivors, advocates, and community responders have a clear, user-friendly guide tailored to all needs. It brings necessary clarity, justice, and safety measures to those who need it most.”
Protection orders are a vital tool for preventing harm – especially when firearms are involved. For example, ERPOs empower family members and law enforcement to petition courts to temporarily remove firearms from individuals who pose imminent risk. Yet survivors often don’t know which type of order fits their situation or how to take the first step. This website aims to explain the filing process as clearly as possible.
By aggregating forms, hearing information, safety planning tools, and legal explanations in one place, waprotectionorders.org fills a gap for the first time offering a single, trusted destination for all protection order information in Washington. By combining resources and expertise, waprotectionorders.org is a valuable tool that breaks down barriers while making legal protections understandable, accessible and actionable for people across Washington State.
