The Alliance For Gun Responsibility Responds To New York Attorney General’s Call For Dissolution Of National Rifle Association

New York Attorney General calls for dissolution of the NRA and removal of CEO Wayne LaPierre, accusing the group of fraud and self-dealing

SEATTLE, WA – The Alliance for Gun Responsibility issued the following statement in response to news that New York Attorney General Letitia James is seeking to dissolve the National Rifle Association in a lawsuit accusing the group of wide-ranging fraud and self-dealing. The lawsuit outlines decades of corruption that funded a lavish lifestyle for longtime CEO Wayne LaPierre and other officials.

“Anyone who has been paying attention to the NRA knows that its sole focus has been padding the pockets of its leadership while blocking any and every commonsense gun safety measure along the way,” said Renée Hopkins, CEO of the Alliance for Gun Responsibility. “This lawsuit details the organization’s decades-long pattern of fraud and corruption, making clear that the NRA is far from the safety and sporting nonprofit it claims to be. For far too long, the NRA has had a stranglehold on our political system, costing the lives of Americans along the way. Its self-dealing and corruption must be stopped. We applaud the steps being taken in New York to right this wrong.”
