Show your love for background checks!

As you may have heard, the counts have come in qualifying I-594! I-591 was close on our heels for qualification, but we still have a victory in hand – we qualified with more valid signatures than the opposition. Pat yourselves on the back for those 21,797 signatures – that’s the difference that volunteer signature gathering makes.

This past Friday, Cheryl Stumbo trekked back down to Olympia to demand an apology for the conduct displayed by members of the Senate Law and Justice Committee at their hearing on January 29th.  Several members of the committee such as Senators Padden and Roach were called out for their inappropriate behavior and insensitive comments toward those testifying on behalf of I-594. Cheryl hand-delivered a letter to Senator Padden’s office as well as to Senator Rodney Tom, the Senate Majority Leader. Senator Jamie Pederson also received a visit… this one to thank him for his support and stand-up behavior among the disrespectful behavior of his colleagues.

The window has closed on a vote for background checks in the House, but we still need your help reaching out to legislators in support of a domestic violence bill. Sign up now for a shift at any of our phone bank locations throughout the month of February to help make us a safer state.
