Response to Annapolis Shooting

We’re horrified to see the reports coming out of Annapolis. While the details are still emerging and we don’t know all the facts yet, we do know that once again a terrible tragedy has struck our country. Gun violence has once again taken lives in America. Shootings like today’s have become a part of the story of too many American communities: Orlando, Las Vegas, Parkland, Mukilteo, Santa Fe, Sutherland Springs, Charleston, Roseburg, and now Annapolis.

This shouldn’t be normal. But unfortunately it has become all too regular and there have already been more than 150 mass shootings in America this year. That is simply unacceptable. It’s a clear sign that we must do more to prevent gun violence not only here in Washington, but around the nation. We can stop these tragedies. And it is our responsibility to make sure that we do.
