2019 Year in Review

As the year comes to a close, we want to take a moment to say a big THANK YOU to our amazing community of supporters.

Thank you for your generosity, your time, and your unwavering commitment to gun violence prevention. We were able to accomplish so much this year because of your support.

This year we saw big changes at the national level—from Congress allocating $25M for gun violence research to the House of Representatives acting on gun safety for the first time in 25 years to corporations like Walmart turning their backs on the gun lobby. All of that would have been unimaginable just a few years ago.

Here in Washington, we helped pass a whopping 10 gun responsibility priority bills, more than in all our previous years combined! And it wasn’t just the quantity of policies, but the quality. We passed groundbreaking measures that prohibit ghost guns and 3-D printed firearms, strengthen protections for law enforcement and victims of domestic violence, and more.

The Alliance for Gun Responsibility Victory Fund also received more requests for local endorsements than ever before. We were ultimately proud to help 38 candidates from all across the state win their seats.

All this advocacy work prompted the Seattle Post-Intelligencer to proclaim, “The Alliance…has surpassed the Gun Lobby as a player in state politics.”

Our advocacy success represents just a fraction of all the important work we were able to do in 2019. Last spring, we hosted a summit focused on domestic violence and firearms, featuring the incredible work of our partners at the Regional Domestic Violence Firearms Enforcement Unit. And in the fall, we co-hosted another summit on the intersection of hate and gun violence with the Anti-Defamation League.

All of these successes—and more—were only possible because of your generous support. So once again, let us say thank you!
