Thump

That thumping sound you just heard was my head hitting my desk.

Last night, a last-minute legal challenge was filed to the attorney general’s description of our initiative — and now we have to go to court to prevent the gun lobby from confusing everyone about what we’re trying to do to keep Washington safe.

And, while this legal wrangling is about as exciting as watching paint dry — it is one of the best chances the NRA leadership and the gun lobbyists have to torpedo criminal background checks.

So, I need your help to stop them. Please chip in $3 right now to our Legal Fund to help us make sure that our initiative language is clear and not confusing to voters.

I know this wording doesn’t sound important — but if they succeed, they’ll be able to scare voters into voting against something that the vast majority of them support.

It’s one thing if Washington voters have a fair election and just decide that they don’t want simple criminal background checks for all gun purchases, but this isn’t what this is about. This legal challenge by the gun lobby is an effort to stop our effort to pass background checks on gun purchases by confusing voters.

The NRA leadership and the rest of the gun lobby are afraid of losing at the ballot box on the merits, so they’re going to try and win this in the courtroom.

Washington voters deserve a fair chance to speak their minds — chip in $3 today to help us fight the NRA leadership and the gun lobby.

Thanks again,

Zach
